Instructor standards

Nick Quinn, International Ski Teacher Diploma: I have invested in going through the British Snowsport Instructional System with BASI. After 5 years of courses some years taking as many as 5 courses in a year, I am now fully qualified as an International Ski Teacher Diploma with The British Association of Snowsport Instructors.

This is an arduous task and can assure you will have the highest level of teaching which is recognised all over the world and equivalent to the Alpine Nations highest qualifications.

You can view what this entails by checking it out at BASI , look at the “overview” drop down menu to see what is entailed. During this training period I have also qualified as a race coach developing athletes from 14 years upwards. These courses have also included a second level Canadian course designed to develop athletes over a long period as well as shorter ones.

Just a quick note regarding our ski lessons on the Flying Start. Our instructor was Nick and I wanted to drop you a note to let you know that he was a fantastic instructor. He was incredibly patient and made sure that the group progressed at the same rate despite varying abilities.Joe and I got an incredible amount from the lessons he gave and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to our friends. I was quite nervous about skiing but he put me at ease and I feel that my progress was down to his patience.

Just wanted to say a really big thank you for organising our skiing lessons for us! We have just arrived home from Tignes where we had a beginners course with Nick. The lessons were fantastic and Nick was great. We really appreciate the time he spent with us and cant wait to arrange another skiing trip. We are also very grateful that we were able to learn in such a small group, some of the other lessons we saw going on had about 16-20 beginners in, we were very lucky to have booked up with you!

Just to say BIG thanks to Nick - great lessons and a lot of fun.. 3 days of lessons and I was skiing down a blue run!

I am really writing to thank Nick for his superb instruction. My skiing has been transformed in only five hours of personal instruction! I hadn't had a lesson for more than twenty years and I can say confidently that he was superb, way above the standards of any previous instructors I have had. Nick explained the technical side brilliantly enabling me to fully understand the reasons behind his general instructions, the flow, the arc, the radius, the body stance, etc, etc.  I really felt that I have now got to grips with the basics of carving, both in large sweeping turns on blue runs and on shorter turns on steeper red bumpy runs.  He also made the lessons great fun.

Hi Nick

I hope your move went well & apologise for the delay in sending this email – I should have sent it a month ago.

I wanted to thank you again, not only for my lesson but also for the lessons you organised for the rest of the group. Despite a few people spending too long in the pub, consequently sleeping in & then missing lessons, those who did turn up loved them. Everyone was very complimentary of all the instructors & best of all every single beginner has said they want to go skiing again. I nearly had a few people convinced to do one more quick weekend in Tignes before the season ended.

Enjoy your summer – it will have to be better than the one we look like we are going to have in the UK.

Kind regards

L. W.
